Xinjiang Medical University, located at the foot of the beautiful Liyu mountain in Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is a provincial key university with glorious tradition. It has been selected into the "excellent doctor education and training plan" and "Chinese government scholarship receiving college for international students in China". It is a University jointly built by the national health and Family Planning Commission, the Ministry of education and Xinjiang Autonomous Region. Fudan University, Sun Yat sen University, China Pharmaceutical University, Beijing University of traditional Chinese medicine and Central South University provide counterpart support to Xinjiang Medical University.Its predecessor, Xinjiang Medical College, was founded in 1954 and enrolled students in 1956. In June 1998, Xinjiang Medical College and Xinjiang College of traditional Chinese medicine merged to establish Xinjiang Medical University. On November 4, 2011, the Ministry of health of the people's Republic of China and Xinjiang autonomous region signed an agreement to jointly build the school. On August 26, 2016, the people's Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the former national health and Family Planning Commission and the Ministry of Education jointly issued the "opinions on building Xinjiang Medical University", which officially became a University jointly built by provincial ministries and commissions.As of January 2020, the university has its headquarters, north campus, Mingyuan campus, cangfanggou campus, and Xuelianshan campus in the new campus of hemaquan, covering an area of 2165 Mu and a building area of 615900 square meters. There are 7 directly affiliated hospitals and 6 non affiliated hospitals. There are 22 departments, 26 undergraduate majors, 15693 teaching staff (including affiliated hospitals) in the whole university There are 18761 students, equivalent to 24919 students. Among them, there are 12165 undergraduates, 3589 full-time postgraduates, 311 doctoral students, 2133 junior college students and 9755 adult education students.
