Ningxia Normal University is located in Guyuan City, a famous historical city at the foot of Liupan Mountain in the south of Ningxia. It is under the management of the people's Government of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. It is the only normal university in Ningxia. It is a joint construction unit of the Education Department of the autonomous region and Guyuan municipal government. It is one of the pilot work units of "serving the national special needs talent training project" for master's degree postgraduates, and is the first free education pilot school for normal students in Ningxia.Its predecessor is Liupanshan University, which was established in 1975. Hu Qili, former vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and then deputy secretary of Guyuan prefectural Party committee, is the leader of the preparatory group of Liupanshan University and the core leading group of the party. Guyuan normal college was established on the basis of Liupanshan university with the approval of the State Council in 1978, renamed Guyuan normal college in 1994, and Ningxia normal college with the approval of the Ministry of education in 2006.As of April 2018, the school has two campuses, covering a total area of 928000 square meters and a total building area of 183000 square meters. It has 12 teaching units, 36 undergraduate majors, 532 teaching staff and 6543 full-time students, including 63 professional postgraduates, 6166 undergraduates (including 800 free normal students), 158 junior college students and 156 minority preparatory students.
