Ningxia Medical University is located in Yinchuan, the capital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. The predecessor of the school is Ningxia Medical College established in 1958. In 1962, it was renamed Department of medicine of Ningxia University. In 1972, Shanghai Railway Medical College moved to Yinchuan and merged with the medical department of Ningxia University to rebuild Ningxia Medical College. Postgraduate education began in 1978. In August 2008, the University changed its name to Ningxia Medical University. In February 2010, it became a new doctoral degree awarding unit. In 2013, it became one of the first batch of Pilot Universities for the reform of training mode of clinical medicine master's degree and the pilot University of "excellent doctor education and training plan". It is a local Medical University jointly established by the national health and Family Planning Commission, the Ministry of education and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.As of September 2016, Yanhu campus and Shuangyi campus have a total area of 1200 mu, a building area of 293200 m2 and a total asset value of 1.168 billion yuan. The library has 946152 books and 1 million digital books. There are 13 teaching institutions and 12 teaching and research institutions. There are 862 full-time teachers, more than 20000 students, and 21 undergraduate majors.
