Since 1999, the art school of Tibet Autonomous Region, the Tibet Medical College, the medical department of Tibet University for nationalities, and the finance and Economics School of Tibet Autonomous Region have been merged into Tibet University. In September 2004, it became a University jointly built by the people's Government of Tibet Autonomous Region and the Ministry of education. In May 2013, it was listed in the revitalization plan of higher education in central and Western China. In July 2013, it was approved as a doctoral degree awarding unit. In September 2017, it entered the ranks of world-class discipline construction universities in China. In February 2018, it became a University jointly built by the Ministry of education and the people's Government of Tibet Autonomous Region.As of October 2019, the university has four campuses: hebalin campus, Najin campus, loprinka medical college campus and loprinka College of Finance and economics campus, with a total area of 1400 Mu and a building area of 428300 square meters; a total collection of 1.321 million books and more than 505000 e-books; the campus network is the main node of CERNET Tibet; there are 15 colleges (departments) and 24000 students There are 1153 in-service teaching staff, including 862 full-time teachers and other teachers.
