Southwest Forestry University University, referred to as "Xilin", is located in Kunming, the spring city. It is a University jointly built by the State Forestry Administration and Yunnan provincial government. It is a university with forestry discipline as the main subject, biological environment discipline as the characteristic, and interdisciplinary development of agriculture, science, engineering, arts, law, management, education and other disciplines. It has been selected into the national "basic ability construction project of universities in central and western regions" and "excellent engineer education and training project" It is also called "excellent agriculture and forestry talents education and training plan". In 1981, it became one of the first batch of master's degree awarding units approved by the State Council, and in 2013, it was approved as a doctor's degree awarding unit.The school started from the Department of forestry of Yunnan University in 1939, and went through Kunming agriculture and Forestry College, Yunnan Forestry College, Yunnan Forestry College, Southwest Forestry College and Southwest Forestry University. Founded independently in 1978, it was originally a college directly under the Ministry of forestry. In 1983, it was renamed Southwest Forestry University, one of the six regional forestry colleges directly under the former Ministry of forestry. In 2000, it was adjusted to a college jointly built by the Ministry and the province and managed by the province. In 2010, it was renamed Southwest Forestry University.The school has three campuses, namely Bailong, Shilin and catalpa garden, covering an area of 2703 mu, and more than 693 mu of experimental forest farm for teaching. Currently, there are 16451 full-time undergraduates, 1230 full-time postgraduates and more than 40 foreign students; the building area of the school is 450000 square meters; the total value of teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment is 123 million yuan; the school has 30 teaching units, 72 undergraduate majors and directions; there are 1219 teaching staff, of which 107 are in vocational colleges.
