At the beginning of the Anti Japanese War, Northeastern University moved to Santai County, Sichuan Province. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, Northeastern University moved back to Shenyang, and the teachers and students who stayed in Sichuan founded the North Sichuan Institute of agriculture and technology on the original site. In 1949, Xishan Academy was absorbed and renamed as North Sichuan University; in 1950, North Sichuan University of Arts was merged and moved to Nanchong City, Sichuan Province. In 1952, with North Sichuan University as the main body, Sichuan Normal University was established by merging some specialties of East Sichuan Education College (former rural construction college), Sichuan University and West China University. In 1964, the third Department of mathematics, physics and chemistry of Southwest University of Finance and economics was incorporated into the University. In 1985, with the approval of the State Education Commission, it was renamed Sichuan Normal University.As of September 2019, the school has two campuses, Shizishan and Jackie Chan, covering an area of more than 3400 mu; there are more than 37000 full-time undergraduates, more than 4000 doctoral and postgraduate students; there are more than 3000 teaching and scientific research personnel; there are 26 colleges and 82 undergraduate majors.
