Southwest University of science and technology is located in Mianyang, Sichuan Province, China Science and technology city. The university is jointly built by the Sichuan Provincial People's government, the Ministry of education and the State Administration of science, technology and industry for national defense. It has been identified by the Ministry of education as one of the 14 key universities in Western China. It has been selected into the "double first class" construction plan of Sichuan Province, the basic capacity construction project of universities in central and Western China, the education and training plan for outstanding engineers, the education and training plan for outstanding legal talents of Sichuan Province, and the excellent agricultural and forestry talents of Sichuan Province Talent education and training plan, Sichuan 2011 plan. Li Lanqing, former member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice premier of the State Council, praised the school for its unique way of running a school through "co construction and regional industry university research cooperation".Since its establishment, the school has been relocated several times and has gone through an extraordinary process of entrepreneurship, development and growth. In the context of deepening the reform of higher education system, the development of Western China and the construction of China (Mianyang) science and Technology City, the Ministry of Education approved the merger of Southwest Institute of technology and Mianyang College of economics and technology to establish Southwest University of science and technology on August 23, 2000.As of April 2020, the campus covers an area of 4131 mu, with a building area of 1.17 million square meters, and the value of teaching, scientific research and research instruments and equipment has reached 716 million yuan. The school library has more than 2.2 million paper books and 7.81 million e-books. The school has more than 34000 graduate students, ordinary college students and foreign students. It has 16 Colleges (departments) including the national defense science and Technology Institute, and 80 undergraduate majors in 9 university disciplines including engineering, agriculture, science, economics, law, literature, management, education and art.
