Quanzhou Normal University is located in Quanzhou, one of the first batch of famous historical and cultural cities and hometown of overseas Chinese in China. It is the first-class discipline construction university in Fujian Province, the implementation University of the excellent teacher training plan of the Ministry of education, and the project construction unit of the master's degree awarding and cultivating unit in Fujian Province from 2018 to 2020. Its predecessor is normal college of Quanzhou University, which was founded in 1958. In 1998, Quanzhou Teachers College, Quanzhou Institute of education and Quanzhou Normal School merged to form a new Quanzhou Teachers College. In 2000, with the approval of the Ministry of education, it was officially upgraded to Quanzhou Normal University, which is the first newly established local undergraduate university in Fujian Province.As of January 2019, the university has three campuses, Donghai, Shishan and Jiangnan, covering an area of 1815 mu; it has 17 secondary colleges and 58 full-time undergraduate majors, covering 9 university disciplines, including economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management and art, with 7 provincial key disciplines. There are 812 full-time teachers in the school headquarters. It has enrolled 18498 full-time undergraduates and postgraduates from 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government.In October 18, 1999 and April 20, 2001, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the CPC Central Committee and then governor of Fujian Province, visited the school for the two time to guide the construction of Quanzhou Normal University and the new campus of the East China Sea. More than 100 million yuan has been donated to support the construction of the school by Quanzhou people from all walks of life and Quanzhou people at home and abroad. More than 20 teaching buildings, experimental buildings and apartment buildings are named after the donors.
