Suzhou University is a full-time regular undergraduate college in Anhui Province. It is a model application-oriented undergraduate college in Anhui Province and a "Local Application-oriented high-level university construction project" College in the higher education revitalization plan of Anhui Province.The predecessor of the school is Suxian normal school in Northern Anhui Province, which was founded in 1949. In February 1983, it was upgraded to Suzhou normal college. In May 2004, it was upgraded to an ordinary undergraduate college and renamed Suzhou University. In 2008, it obtained the right to confer a bachelor's degree. In 2014, it passed the undergraduate teaching qualification assessment of the Ministry of education. In 2019, the university is officially included in the provincial master project construction unit of Anhui Province.As of October 2019, the school covers an area of 1146 mu, with a reserved land of 1160 mu, a building area of 444700 square meters, a total value of 207 million yuan of teaching and research equipment, a collection of 1.23 million paper books and 5.13 million e-books, 15 secondary colleges, 64 general undergraduate majors, 17360 full-time students and 3600 adult education students. The school covers eight disciplines including engineering, management, science, literature, economics, art, education and medicine. It has one national characteristic specialty, one national comprehensive reform pilot specialty, one provincial key discipline, nine provincial characteristic specialties and 12 provincial comprehensive reform pilot specialties.
