West Anhui University is a provincial comprehensive undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of education in March 2000. It is composed of the former West Anhui United University, Lu'an normal college and Lu'an normal school. The history of running the school can be traced back to the Anhui Provincial Agricultural School of type 3A founded by Zhu Yunshan, former vice chairman of the National People's Congress in 1918. In 2009, it was selected as the provincial master project construction unit.The school is located in Lu'an City, Anhui Province. As of September 2019, the campus covers an area of 1581 mu, with a total construction area of more than 460000 square meters. The library has a total collection of nearly 1.7 million copies, and the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 264 million yuan. There are 15 secondary colleges and 65 undergraduate majors. Human geography is a provincial key discipline. The school has 20032 full-time students, 1089 in-service staff, 893 full-time teachers, 292 people with deputy senior titles or above (including 71 Senior), 698 master's and doctoral teachers, and 27 provincial high-level talents.The university is the construction unit of "Local Application-oriented high-level university construction" project of Anhui higher education revitalization plan. In July 2015, it became the main member school of "University Alliance in the old revolutionary base areas of Dabie Mountains".
