It is selected as the implementation College of the new engineering research and practice project of the Ministry of education and the characteristic discipline construction college of Heilongjiang Province.The predecessor of the school can be traced back to the Northeast mining area worker cadre school established in 1947; Jixi coal mine school was established in 1954 by merging with Hegang coal mine school. In 1958, Jixi Mining College was established on the basis of Jixi coal mine school. In 1964, it was changed into Jixi coal mine school due to the adjustment of colleges and universities. In 1978, Jixi University of mining and technology was rebuilt. In 1981, it was renamed Heilongjiang Institute of mining and technology.
