Hohhot University for nationalities is located in Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is a key construction university in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is jointly built by the people's Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the State Commission for ethnic affairs.Founded in 1953, the school is the earliest ethnic college in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In 2000, Inner Mongolia Mongolian College and Inner Mongolia Normal University for Nationalities merged to form Inner Mongolia college for nationalities. In 2009, with the approval of the Ministry of education, the school was upgraded and renamed Hohhot University for nationalities.As of June 2019, the university has nearly 9000 full-time students, with 17 teaching units, 8 auxiliary teaching units, 37 undergraduate majors and 7 junior college majors, covering 8 disciplines such as economics, law, education, literature, science, engineering, management and art. The 26 undergraduate programs are mainly based on Mongolian Chinese bilingual teaching.
