Located in Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Inner Mongolia Medical University is a multi-disciplinary Higher Medical University with a focus on medicine and a combination of science, management, engineering and literature. It is also a pilot University of "excellent doctor education and training plan" and a basic capacity-building Engineering University in central and Western China.Founded in 1956, formerly known as Inner Mongolia Medical College, it was one of the earliest medical colleges established in ethnic minority areas in New China. At that time, it was subordinate to the Ministry of health of the people's Republic of China, and was under the management of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in 1958. Approved by the Ministry of education, Inner Mongolia Medical University was renamed in March 2012.
