Located in Hohhot City, Inner Mongolia Agricultural University is a key university in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is one of the 14 key universities in Western China built by the Ministry of education during the "Tenth Five Year Plan" period in 2001. It is one of the first batch of 32 cultural quality education bases for College Students in China. The State Forestry Administration and the people's Government of the autonomous region jointly build universities. Inner Mongolia Agricultural University is supported by China Agricultural University.In 1952, the Department of animal husbandry and veterinary medicine of Hebei Agricultural College, Pingyuan Agricultural College and the veterinary specialty of Shanxi Agricultural College were relocated to Guisui (now Huhhot), and Inner Mongolia animal husbandry and veterinary college, the first undergraduate college in Inner Mongolia, was established. In 1958, Inner Mongolia Forestry College was established. In 1960, Inner Mongolia animal husbandry and veterinary college was renamed Inner Mongolia agriculture and Animal Husbandry College. In 1999, Inner Mongolia agriculture and Animal Husbandry College and Inner Mongolia Forestry College merged to form Inner Mongolia Agricultural University.As of June 2020, the university has set up 23 departments (including vocational and technical colleges) including the College of Animal Sciences, and now has 35080 full-time students in general higher education (28561 in the school headquarters). Currently, there are 4583 postgraduates (including 3067 full-time students) and 639 doctoral students. There are 154 international students. The school covers a total area of 14000 mu (including science and Technology Park), and the campus covers a total area of 3360 mu (2630 mu). The teaching and administrative room of the school headquarters covers an area of 409200 square meters, there are four standard track and field fields (stadiums), and the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 1 billion yuan.
