Taiyuan University is a full-time ordinary university established by the people's Government of Taiyuan and approved by the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China.The predecessor of the university is Taiyuan University, which was founded in 1984 and mainly focuses on college degree education. In 2013, with the approval of the Ministry of education, the University was upgraded to a comprehensive general undergraduate college and renamed Taiyuan University.As of October 2019, the planning land of Fendong campus is 1828 mu, covering a total area of 1308 mu, which is composed of Fendong campus, baling campus, Fudong campus and Binhe campus. The school has 344700 square meters of building area, 69.04 million yuan of teaching and scientific research equipment, 1.3 million books and 4.24 million e-books. There are 17 departments including Chinese Department, architectural engineering department, political science and law department, physical and chemical department, 2 teaching departments and 2 teaching centers. There are 33 undergraduate specialties and 26 junior colleges. There are 950 teaching staff, 26 professors and 16423 students 。
